Winter Graduation: What to Know

Is your student graduating this semester? Congratulations to them AND you! It's a special time to celebrate your student's achievements, commemorate their successes, and look boldly into the future at George Mason University's winter graduation events, December 14-16, 2021.

This year, graduates may select between Patriot Procession and/or their formal College ceremony.

Patriot Procession is a unique and flexible opportunity for graduates and their guests to celebrate this tremendous achievement together in a very personal way. In this format, families and guests accompany their graduate, and receive a front-row view of them crossing the stage. Reserve a Patriot Procession time at gmu.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_01XT8Qu3KHIT4qi.

Mason's formal Winter Graduation ceremonies will include speakers and musical performances honoring the graduates. The graduation speaker is Shaza Andersen, BA Area Studies ‘89, who serves as the founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Trustar Bank, the first Virginia-based bank to be chartered in more than a decade. Andersen is recognized by American Banker as one of the Top 25 Women to Watch and twice named a Top Banker by SmartCEO magazine.

The ceremonies are held in two sessions on December 16, 2021, and graduates attend the ceremony corresponding to their School or College.

  • 10 a.m.: College of Humanities and Social Sciences; Schar School of Policy and Government; Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution; College of Visual and Performing Arts; Antonin Scalia Law School
  • 2 p.m.: School of Business; College of Engineering and Computing; College of Health and Human Services; College of Education and Human Development; College of Science
  • Register for the 10 a.m. or 2 p.m. ceremony at gmu.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_01XT8Qu3KHIT4qi.

All graduates will have their names called as they process across the stage, and are professionally photographed commemorating the occasion. Ceremonies are also available via the Mason Youtube livestream service.
