Important Dates and Deadlines

There are a lot of dates to keep track of and fortunately, they're easy to find. The most up-to date calendar information is posted on the Office of the University Registrar Website. Be aware of the following dates and deadlines:

  • First day of classes
  • Last day to add a class; last day to drop
  • Last days to drop with tiered tuition reimbursement
  • Last day to withdraw or selective withdraw

We have curated a calendar just for families! If you are attending Orientation on-campus, you will receive a copy at check-in. We will also have copies available during Family Weekend. Our digital version is available online and we offer translations in six languages.

Here are some questions families frequently ask about the calendar:

What does the add/drop period mean?

Add/Drop is the period of time where students can add or drop a class. It is highly recommended that students consult their advisor before adding or dropping a class, as doing so could hold financial/course credit implications. Students should adhere to the academic calendar for add/drop dates.

What is the difference between a Drop and a Withdrawal/Selective Withdrawal?

Dropping the course simply removes the course from a student's schedule, whereas withdrawing from a course gives a "W" grade on a transcript. Withdrawal occurs once the period to drop classes is over. While a withdrawal may not have a punitive effect on GPA, it may affect a student's academic standing as courses that have a grade of "W" (withdrawal) are counted in the attempted hours that are used to determine a student's academic standing. It is highly recommended that students consult their advisor before withdrawing from a class, as it can have financial/course credit implications and there is a limited number of times a student can selectively withdraw.

When can my student leave for winter/summer break?

Students may leave when they have completed their final exams. Students may not have an exam every single day of finals week. Encourage them to look through their syllabi to determine what days they have finals and be sure to consult them before booking any travel. If your student is living on-campus in the fall, they will not need to move their items from their room for winter break - they can just pack what they need for break and return to their room when the residence halls reopen in January. In the spring, your student will need to complete move-out procedures as outlined by Housing and Residence Life.

A helpful note on scheduling travel plans:

  • With any date on the calendar, consult with your student first before making any travel plans!
