George Mason Parking & Transportation includes a variety of services that support parking and transit on all of Mason’s campuses. The Transportation Office provides administrative oversight of the parking operation and acts as liaison with the City of Fairfax related to the CUE Bus and other transportation items. The department serves as the university’s representative to the multiple jurisdictions that Mason campuses and locations reside in and provides strategic direction regarding parking and transportation decisions to the campus. It oversees the transportation demand management program, including bicycle and ride-sharing, Commonwealth Commuter Choice, and more.

Here are the questions families frequently ask us:

How does my student purchase a permit and how will they receive it?

Parking permits will now be virtual, instead your student's license plate is their permit, and can be purchased through the Parking Portal. The permits will be valid immediately after purchase, and they register their license plate to their permit. Visit the virtual permit page for more information.

How does my student switch parking permits?

Switching permits is permissible based on permit availability. If your student would like to switch their permit, please submit a permit exchange/cancellation request form. Depending on which lot or garage they will be switching to, they may have to pay a fee. For switching to permits at the same price, a $15 fee is charged. If upgrading, one will pay the difference in price.

I'm visiting the campus. What options do I have for parking?

Go to the Visitor Parking page for more information!

In the case of inclement weather, where does a student park when it snows?

If Mason is open while it is snowing or after it snows, normally regular parking rules will be in effect. However, in advance of snow storms, Mason may require all vehicles to be cleared from surface lots and parked in garages which will be opened to accommodate everyone. It is important to pay attention to emails from Parking & Transportation as well as Mason Alert.

Check back soon for more information about when parking permits will go on sale for the semester!
