The mission of the Student Accounts Office is to provide excellent service for our students, staff, and faculty, while maintaining internal controls that ensure financial transactions are accurately processed and proper records are maintained. The Student Accounts Office bills students for tuition, fees, housing and meal plans and processes refunds based off of charges and aid received. Our Third-Party Billing Office assists students whose attendance at the University is sponsored by public/private sector, military agencies, educational institutions, and international embassies.

Here are the questions families frequently ask us:

Will your student receive a bill for their classes?

Electronic bills are generated approximately one month prior to the start of each semester. Reminder bills are not mailed for additional charges or schedule adjustments. Electronic bills are available for review in the Bill+Payment for Students or the Bill+Payment for Authorized Users. When these bills are created, an email is sent to the student’s Mason email account and to any authorized users who are set up in the payment system.

How do I pay using my credit card?

Payments using VISA, MasterCard, American Express, Discover Card, and electronic checks (from personal checking accounts only) can be made using the Bill+Payment for Students or the Bill+Payment for Authorized Users up until 10:30 PM nightly.

What if I am unable to pay online?

For those not able to make payment online and, who traditionally pay with cash, you may purchase a Money Order made payable to George Mason University and send to us by mail. Money Orders can be purchased at the following places, as well as banks and credit unions:

U.S. Post Office
Giant grocery stores
Safeway grocery stores
Walmart
7-11 stores

In addition, check payments for student account balances (including scholarship checks) can be sent to:

Mail*:
George Mason University
P.O. Box # 716475
Philadelphia, PA 19171-6475

If payment is being sent for overnight delivery by courier, please send to:

Lockbox Services – #716475
George Mason University
2005 Market Street, 5th Floor
Philadelphia, PA 19103-7042

*Please make sure that the student’s ID number (G#) is included on the check or in correspondence with the check.

What payment plans are available?

Payment plans are available online for students who want to budget their accounts. A $30 setup fee is required at the time of enrollment. To view the plans available for enrollment, please visit the Bill+Payment for Students or the Bill+Payment for Authorized Users.

Do I need to submit a refund request for Financial Aid?

A refund request form is not needed for financial aid refunds. Overpayments from Financial Aid awards will automatically generate a refund payment. If you are not enrolled in direct deposit, this payment will be a paper check, which is mailed to the address on file with the University. Direct deposit payments will be automatically deposited into your bank account. This is quickest way to receive your refund payment. Instructions on how to enroll in direct deposit are located on our website.

When will I receive my refund for account credits from non-Financial Aid sources, such as overpayments?

After submitting a refund request, your refund will be processed within 10-14 business days. If you are not enrolled in direct deposit, this payment will be a paper check, which is mailed to the address on file with the University. Direct deposit payments will be automatically deposited into your bank account.

What is the Add/Drop policy?

Students must drop courses by the drop deadline posted in the university calendar if they decide not to attend. Students will incur tuition liability for all charges remaining on the account after the drop deadline without exception. The deadlines are made available to students each semester on the Registrar's website.
